Duke's Singler has arthroscopic surgery on left knee

CBSSports. Duke senior Kyle Singler is recovering from knee surgery.

The school said last seasons most outstanding player at the Final Four had arthroscopic surgery on his left knee Friday afternoon at the Duke University Medical Center. He is expected to recover in time for the start of preseason practice Oct. 15.

Associate head coach Steve Wojciechowski says Singler was having some "discomfort" in his knee, so he decided to go ahead and have the surgery.

Singler averaged nearly 18 points and seven rebounds to help Duke win its fourth NCAA championship.

UConn given more time to respond to allegations

CBSSports.c The NCAA is giving Connecticut another week to respond to allegations that the schools basketball program committed eight major rules violations.

The university was expected to respond by Aug. 20, but that deadline was moved last month to Sept. 3 based on requests by the coaches cited in the allegations.

UConn said the date has now been set at Sept. 7.

Former assistants Beau Archibald and Patrick Sellers resigned amid accusations that they lied to investigators, who found hundreds of improper calls and texts from UConn staff to recruits.

BYU says it is leaving the Mountain West Conference and will go independent in football while joining the West Coast Conference in all other sports in the 2011-2012 school year.

BYU and its new conference announced the moves in simultaneous releases late Tuesday afternoon, saying further details would be given at a news conference Wednesday at BYUs LaVell Edwards Stadium.

Nevada regulators probing Jordan son's partying

CBSSport MGM Resorts International was under investigation after the underage son of basketball great Michael Jordan bragged on Twitter about partying at a Las Vegas Strip nightclub, Nevada gambling regulators said Monday.

Officials were examining whether the casino operator violated laws prohibiting drinking or gambling by minors, Nevada Gaming Control Board enforcement chief Jerry Markling said.

People under 21 often try to gamble or drink in Las Vegas, but punishment for casino operators depend on the circumstances, Markling said.
